Today's post is a reprint of an email message I received from my friend and colleague Frank DeMarco. For years Frank has enjoyed clear and cogent conversations with his spiritual guides, whom he refers to as The Guides Upstairs, or TGU for short. Frank often shares notes from these conversations by email. This one I found striking enough that I asked his permission to reprint it here. As you may have gathered from the post title the subject is the fundamental nature of the challenge of our times as seen from a spiritual perspective. Note: Frank's words are in italics. Those of TGU are in plain text.

All right. It is 8 a.m., nearly, the start of a cloud-heavy morning. If you're ready to answer [my brother] Paul's question – what is the real challenge of our time, what is the equivalent of the Civil War to us – I'm ready to hear it.
You have heard it many times, each time in a slightly different context. You have expressed it many times, enough that it is just another of your beliefs.
